National Playday

National Playday is a UK wide celebration of children’s play. This year’s playday will be held on Wed 3rd August 2016 in Eirias Park, Colwyn Bay.

Each year has a different theme and full details on upcoming campaigns can be found online at www.playday.org.uk.

Numerous local organisations and council departments come together to plan National Playday in Conwy to ensure that a wide range of play opportunities are made available.

Play opportunities include den building, rope swings, sand and water, messy play, cardboard box city, big bubbles, painting, boat building, pond dipping and our ENORMOUS water slide.

The focus of the events is on children directing their own play and adults are encouraged to allow play to continue without getting too involved. Children will have supervised access to tools, den building, mud and water play supervised by trained playworkers – but PLEASE expect them to get WET and MUDDY.

National Playday is ‘open access’ meaning children can come and go as they please. Parents are advised to attend; under 8’s must be supervised.

Playing Out

Playing Out Open Access Play Provision has historically provided children from 5 years and over with the chance to freely choose their play in an outdoor, staffed play setting (normally a local park). Playing Out was run by Conwy County Borough Council, however due to financial constraints it is unlikely to run this summer (2016). To find out more about Playing Out please contact Caroline Jones – 01492 575557.

Can you run a play scheme?

As there is no Playing Out this year we are asking you to run a play scheme in your local community, contact us for more details!

Play Sufficiency

Under section 11 (1) of the Children and Families (Wales) Measure, each Local Authority is required to undertake a play sufficiency assessment every 3 years to assess opportunities for playing within it’s area. In addition we are required to develop an action plan that secures opportunities for children to play.

Stakeholders and partners are committed to working together to achieve the aims set out in our play sufficiency action plan so that children in Conwy have access to staffed and unstaffed play provision but also have the best possible opportunities for playing in school, in their communities and beyond.

If you would like more information about play sufficiency please contact CVSC Play Development Team on 01492 523857 or playdeveloment@cvsc.org.uk
