National Playday

National Playday is a UK wide celebration of children’s play. This year's playday will be held on Wednesday 7th August 2019 on Rydal Penrhos Playing Fields Brackley Avenue, Colwyn Bay.

Numerous local organisations and council departments come together to plan National Playday in Conwy to ensure that a wide range of play opportunities are made available.

Play opportunities include den building, rope swings, sand and water, messy play, cardboard box city, big bubbles, painting, boat building, junk modelling, cardboard city and much more.

The focus of the events is on children directing their own play and adults are encouraged to allow play to continue without getting too involved. Children will have supervised access to tools, den building, mud and water play supervised by trained playworkers – but PLEASE expect them to get WET and MUDDY.

National Playday is ‘open access’ meaning children can come and go as they please. Parents are advised to attend; under 8’s must be supervised.

Volunteers

The Play Development Team offer support and mentoring to anyone interested in volunteering in play settings. Volunteers are given the opportunity to access free training and many qualifications.

Play Sufficiency

What is Play sufficiency? Under section 11 (1) of the Children and Families (Wales) Measure, each Local Authority is required to undertake a play sufficiency assessment every 3 years to assess opportunities for playing within it’s area. In addition we are required to develop an action plan that secures opportunities for children to play. Stakeholders and partners are committed to working together to achieve the aims set out in our play sufficiency action plan so that children in Conwy have access to staffed and unstaffed play provision but also have the best possible opportunities for playing in school, in their communities and beyond.
