Ruthin Rays Swimming Club
In March 2021 Ruthin Rays Swimming Club were successful in their application to the Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm Fund to purchase 3 new diving boards and backstroke ledges for the club.
The majority of young swimmers at the Club are now confident to dive off the blocks, and this has led to increased swimmers entering galas.
The improved design of the new blocks with an adjustable footrest gives swimmers a more powerful start. This has seen an increase in the personal best times of the swimmers. In a recent gala in Bromsgrove, 13 swimmers competed and there were 56 personal best times. FANTASTIC!
Ruthin Rays has not previously had backstroke ledges and their introduction to the Club is allowing the coaching team to develop their understanding and coaching technique. As swimmers are now increasingly diving from the block, the coaches are able to develop the coaching techniques to improve the underwater work of competitive starts.
The club continues to grow and their membership numbers are continuously increasing.

“The blocks funded by the Clocaenog wind farm grant have benefitted the club by providing a safe and stable base for inexperienced divers to learn the basics, and for experienced competitive swimmers to improve their diving start position, and gain drive and momentum from their dive starts. The backstroke wedges that attach to the blocks have improved the backstroke starts of all our swimmers from 8 to over 18's from the very first use as our pool has smooth walls, so there is no grip at all for backstroke foot pushoff. The sheer amount of Personal Best times for our swimmers at the first galas back is testament to the value of these starting blocks, and we are eternally grateful for the funding”
