Car y Llan Volunteer- Bethan Trenchard

Car-y-Llan Community Car scheme is delivered by CVSC in collaboration with Conwy West Cluster and the GP Practices in Betws y Coed and Cerrigydrudion.  Funded by the Steve Morgan Foundation and the National  Lottery Community Fund, it was developed pre-Covid to transport vulnerable patients living in the rural isolated communities of the Upper Conwy Valley to their health appointments.   The patient transport element was put on hold at the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic and the car was used by the GP practices for prescription deliveries.

Bethan started volunteeting with Car Y Llan right at the beginning of the scheme at the end of 2019. Covid had a major impact on the scheme but since its been back up and running Bethan has been a major asset to the scheme in delivering the surgery’s prescriptions weekly in all kind of weathers.

We’ve asked Bethan what was her motivation to become Car y Llan volunteer: “I saw a poster at my GP’s surgery asking for volunteers and I thought that this is an opportunity for me to support my local community. My role is to deliver prescriptions from surgery to the housbound clients. I really enjoy meeting all the people and it means a lot to me to be able to provide them with a service they may otherwise find difficult to reach. Many of them are lonely and don’t have close family leaving nearby to collect prescriptions for them. I received lot’s of help from CVSC and project manager Annie was always available to provide support and advice making me feel valued and reasured. “

“Bethan is a great volunteer who is always ready to help. She has been vital in supporting the surgery with their deliveries over the last year and has been a great help to them. Without Bethan’s support Car Y Llan would not have been able to provide the services it has been.”
