Those who attended our Health & Wellbeing Network meeting in March will have heard about the innovative Children’s Residential Assessment Unit being built in Colwyn Bay. The new unit, which will be named Bwthyn y Ddôl, is being built adjacent to Eirias Park on the site of Meadow Lodge, Abergele Road, Colwyn Bay. The sub regional unit will not be a child’s permanent home, rather a place where children and young people with complex needs can be safely cared for and nurtured by a residential team. At the same time the child and their parents/carers can undergo assessment and receive appropriate therapeutic support by the onsite therapy team.
Building work has now started and is expected to take about twelve months. The contract has been awarded to WRW Construction and is being funded by Welsh Government Integrated Care Funding. Although CCBC is the lead agency, the whole project is a partnership between Conwy County Borough Council, Denbighshire County Council and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
