Volunteer Opportunities - 22/02/21
The Wales Community Rehabilitation Company provide a range of probation services for adult service users on community orders or licences. Their aim is “to change lives and inspire public confidence by cutting crime”. They are currently seeking Volunteer Mentors.
If you are empathetic, assertive and reliable you can help and support Service Users to make positive changes to their lives, as well as your local communities. You will spend time getting to know the service users, taking an interest in their lives, supporting them emotionally and practically. Interactions with the service users will vary depending on Government COVID-19 guidelines. Currently all face to face interactions are suspended to maximise safeguarding and interactions are now taking place remotely using technology that is available to the service user. As a volunteer, you will be provided with a mobile phone for this interaction. If you are thinking of starting a career in criminal justice, substance misuse, debt, advocacy and counselling, this opportunity gives you the ability to gain new skills and an invaluable experience. Formal training is essential to enable you to provide the highest quality of mentoring. You will be required to complete full 2 days training with additional ongoing training throughout your volunteering career. The volunteer unit provides supervision to our volunteers and reasonable out of pocket expenses, including travel will be reimbursed. The minimum age of applicants is 18 years old.
HOPE is an exciting new project that will support older people (50+) and carers to: engage, participate, gain information and have their voices heard. As a Volunteer Advocate you’ll support people in your local community to have their views, wishes and feelings heard and to achieve their personal aspirations and goals. Within this role you’ll support people with their issues or concerns and ultimately empower them to be able to resolve similar issues themselves in the future. You’ll help people to: engage with others so they feel involved and supported; participate so they don’t feel left out, isolated or disempowered; get the support they need, when they need it, based on what matters to them; say what matters to them in meetings or sit alongside them to give support; look at ways to make them feel safe if they have been or are at risk of being harmed.
Skills needed for this role include ability to listening to people and hearing their wishes and aspirations, ability to explain things in clear concise ways, patience and understanding of older people’s situations.
Carers Wales wants a society that respects, values and supports carers. Their mission is to make life better for carers by giving expert advice, information and support. They connect carers so no-one has to care alone. They are looking to recruit Volunteer Admin Support to the Volunteer and Engagement Officer for Carers Wales. This opportunity enables anyone who would like to volunteer for Carers Wales, to gain the skills and confidence, to be able to speak to other carers and share experiences across Conwy. They are seeking enthusiastic volunteers, who can reach out to carers and carer groups in their local area online and put them in touch with Carers Wales and provide general admin to support volunteer activity. No experience is necessary, all support and training will be given individually. This role can be performed from home. It is a great opportunity to improve your confidence and develop new skills. You will need the friendliness and confidence to meet and greet new people. You will need good organisational skills and being fluent in Welsh would be a benefit.
