Llanasa Village Hall

Llanasa Village Hall is a valued community facility that hosts a wide range of activities and events for local residents. With rising energy costs and an ageing heating system threatening efficiency, the Hall's trustees identified the need to modernise the building while preserving its character and ensuring it remains welcoming for future generations.

Thanks to support from the Gwynt y Môr Community Fund, the Hall successfully completed the first phase of its Greener Future Initiative, installing a new energy-efficient boiler and five secondary glazing windows. 

The project replaced an 18-year-old oil-fired boiler with a modern, high-efficiency system designed to reduce fuel consumption and improve heating performance. Secondary glazing was also installed in the main hall and committee room, helping to retain heat, reduce draughts and improve overall comfort for users. 

In addition to improving energy efficiency, the new heating system incorporates Hive smart technology, allowing the Hall's Bookings Officer to monitor and control temperatures remotely. This enables heating to be managed more effectively, reducing unnecessary oil usage while ensuring the building is comfortable when in use. 

The upgrades have already had a positive impact on people who regularly use the Hall. Feedback from community groups indicates that the building now retains warmth more effectively, creating a more pleasant environment for activities and events. Importantly, the installation work was completed with minimal disruption to regular users. 

One regular hall user commented:

"More recently upon entering the hall you can feel it is holding the warmth much more. The secondary glazing looks great and will reduce draught. When the updates were being done, we experienced no disruption to sessions. It all seemed to happen quickly and in an organised way." 

Introducing modern technology into an older community building presented challenges, but through strong collaboration with contractors, volunteers and local residents, the project was delivered successfully. The Hall's trustees report increased confidence in the building's environmental credentials and believe the improvements will help secure the facility's future for many years to come. 

The project has not only improved energy performance but has also modernised the way the building is managed, allowing heating to be monitored remotely and providing greater flexibility for volunteers who operate the facility. 

The project demonstrates how targeted investment can help rural community facilities become more sustainable, efficient and resilient. By reducing heat loss, improving heating controls and lowering reliance on fossil fuels, Llanasa Village Hall is well placed to reduce operating costs and continue serving local residents in a comfortable and environmentally responsible way. The improvements have helped safeguard an important and popular community asset, ensuring it remains fit for purpose for years to come while supporting the Hall's journey towards greater energy efficiency.
