Underground Artists Movement (UAM)
Underground Artists Movement (UAM) were awarded £25,700 towards establishing a free music studio for artists under 18 in Colwyn Bay and surrounding areas. The studio provided a safe and creative space for young musicians to develop their talents, create music, and collaborate with peers.
The studio in Colwyn Bay is just a few doors away from CVSC’s own offices. They are a newly formed group and the project also received funding support from the Community Lottery Fund and the Town Council.
The studio is equipped with top-of-the-line instruments, recording equipment, and software, providing everything needed to produce professional-quality music. From a solo artist, a band looking to jam, or a producer exploring new sounds, their studio is their creative playground.
But the Under 18 Free Music Studio is more than just a space—it's a supportive community of fellow musicians and mentors who are passionate about helping young people grow and thrive.
They have had a gradual increase in numbers, but in total have met with 52 young people benefiting from the studio.
With the support of the students at Llandrillo College, and the local agencies such as Conwy Youth Services, Youth Shedz, Tape and local schools.
They have gone on to host 4 solo artist events, their Open Day Event, 8 monthly gigs for UAM Presents (UAM showcase/open mic), 4 pop up workshop events and their Artist Development Showcase. These have been hosted in various venues across Colwyn Bay and North Wales, and well received by the public.
The U18 Studio has made a huge difference to our young people and wider community.
It has given local under-18s a safe, creative space to develop new skills in music, media, and digital production.
Opportunities that simply didn’t exist locally before. The project has helped build confidence, teamwork, and aspiration among young participants, while strengthening our organisation’s connection with families and schools.
