Youth Shedz expands and makes sure volunteers and young people are all kept safe

Youth Shedz is an award-winning initiative that provides a safe place for young people to explore who they are, to develop pro-social relationships with suitable role models, develop and learn new skills.

With a great need being identified by schools, police and other community partners we have developed a toolkit to enable other partner organisations develop the ethos of Youth Shedz and plant a Shed in different areas. Lysfaen Football Association have been our partners in developing this toolkit, and we have worked with them since Autumn 2021 to develop a safe space which honours the Youth Shedz principles.

Sian Jenkinson, Youth Shedz stated “The work highlights how important it is to ensure our partners keep a safe space – not just for the young people, but by having enough suitable adult volunteers to help safeguard and oversee sessions. Bethan Jones at Llysfaen is diligent and passionate about making the space work for everyone concerned.”

CVSC has provided one to one support in developing the toolkit (which is now being piloted in Holyhead High School as well) and the MOU (renamed the License Agreement) which ensures the governance is put in place at a strategic level to ensure safe practise happens on the ground.

Training provided by CVSC is always excellent and the team are always available to support any queries.

From Llysafen Shed Champion, Bethan Jones “Youth Shedz are amazing. The support we get from Scott and the team has been really helpful. We work through challenges together. We are seeing our young people mix together and there is a real buzz from what they do in the Shed and for the community”
