Ty Gobaith
Ty Gobaith were awarded £75,000 towards an extension to create a purpose-built end of life support suite for the hospice in the summer of 2024.
The total build costs were £592,546 and included the main construction costs, refurbishment of existing building, external works as well as equipment and preliminaries.
The new, enlarged space and flexible layout will impact positively on safety, dignity and comfort for all by providing enhanced care experiences for children and young people with complex, palliative conditions at end-of-life.
The new space offers greater privacy, independence and comfort at this most difficult of times, with the flexibility to accommodate different family situations. This will be measured by gathering informal family feedback (comments, cards, e-mails) and through family interviews.
The extension provides additional space so that 2 children/families can be cared for at end-of-life. Previously, they were only able to offer this to one child at a time.

The care team are delighted with the extension, particularly with the size of the new space, its outlook, the flexibility it allows, the dedicated clinical areas and outdoor spaces.
In the short-term, the project has already had a powerful impact on at least one family who, aware of the building work taking place, asked for a tour of the extension and new facilities which they know they will need to use at some stage

Seeing the physical space where end-of-life will eventually take place is another stage in the journey of acceptance of their child’s prognosis and can help a family to overcome their fears and anxieties, supporting a healthier process of anticipatory grief.
At our recent open day, a number of medical professionals from across north Wales attended, along with our own care team.
Those who took part in the open day survey confirmed that the new facilities offer a safer, improved working environment, that better equips staff to provide effective clinical care.

Thank you so much to the Gwynt Y Môr Community Foundation trustees for your generous grant and to the team at CVSC for supporting us with the application process. This project will help to ensure that children with life-limiting conditions from across north Wales receive world class palliative care in their community.
