The Aloud Charity

The Aloud Charity received funding from the Gwynt y Môr Community fund to deliver a Regional Only Boys Aloud Rehearsal at the ASK Centre in Rhyl on the 18th of November 2023.

The rehearsal saw members of the Only Boys Aloud choir in Rhyl joined by choir members from the other Only Boys Aloud choirs in North Wales (Wrexham and Bangor) for a day of workshop activities. This will provide the Only Boys Aloud choir members in Rhyl with the opportunity to develop strong positive relationships with their peers and make new friends.

“It was great to have all the North Wales members of Only Boys Aloud together for the first time since the beginning of the new academic year.

Rehearsing at The Ask Centre is always a pleasure. Based in the middle of Rhyl just off the seafront it is such a friendly, welcoming, and user-friendly venue and provides vital support to the community.

It was really encouraging to see our newest members from all three OBA groups (Rhyl, Bangor, and Wrexham) engaging with each other and with our older, more experienced members who were fantastic in welcoming the newcomers and naturally adopted their roles as peer mentors.  It has been a challenging time for the Arts sector recently, and despite our recruitment programme stumbling across significant hurdles, seeing the power of music uniting a group of young men from all walks of life is undeniably rewarding to us as The Aloud Charity staff, Choir Leaders and volunteers.

Following some fun warm-up activities and warm-up songs, the lads worked hard on pieces in preparation for our performance at St Paul’s Church, Colwyn Bay on 9th December and were fully engaged during the sessions which were led by our dedicated team of Choir Leaders and supported by our wonderful Community Leader.  We also managed to record a video of us singing a song which will be edited together to include clips of all our OBA choirs throughout Wales – we always look forward in anticipation to see the end result!”
