Llannefydd Football Club

In April 2022, Clwb Pel-droed Llannefydd was awarded £8400.00 by the Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm Fund to enlarge their playing area. This work was needed as a larger play area would allow the club to meet some of the criteria needed to obtain an FAW Tier 3 license.

Clwb Pel-droed Llannefydd is a community-focused football club who offer facilities that allow for large participation in football, leading to a more cohesive rural community. This includes a successful girls’ team, junior teams, and a senior football team. An FAW Tier 3 license would allow the club to further widen its participation as without the license, local people would have to play for a club outside of their community to compete at a higher level.

The criteria for FAW Tier 3 qualification are extensive. The grant from the Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm Fund allowed the club to satisfy one of the most challenging criteria, the size of the pitch. The club are now well on their way to obtaining the license and have since secured further support to purchase a stand for the pitch.

Following the enlargement of the football pitch, Clwb Pel-droed Llannefydd have continued their participation in football for the local community. One game against Llansannan attracted a crowd of almost 250 people! The girls’, junior and senior teams have continued to use the pitch, as well as another under 15s girls’ team from Henllan, a neighbouring community. The pitch is now used by both girls’ and boys’ youth teams.

A representative from the club commented that:

"The support that we have received as a club from Clocaenog Forest Wind Farm Fund has been instrumental in driving the club forward. Being able to carry out this initial work as created real momentum for us as a club. The committee membership has grown and there is a real buzz of excitement in the village around what is possible. We have a couple of extra projects currently being planned but for a rural village like Llannefydd to be able to improve its facilities in such a way is so important for the whole community. We are extremely grateful."
