The Gwynt y Môr Community Fund prides itself on the wide and varied projects funded during any year; 2022 being no exception. In the summer of ‘22’ we funded Oriel Mostyn (£5,000 grant) to deliver a community arts, heritage and environmental project entitled Cwrdd â Mi Wrth yr Afon (Meet Me By The River)

This interactive exhibition saw collaborative artwork produced by the Cwrdd â Mi Wrth yr Afon group and artist Frances Disley which connected a wide audience with the Gwynt y Môr and North Wales landscape.

Cwrdd â Mi Wrth yr Afon created sculptures, films and textiles all exhibited at Oriel Mostyn together with activities in the ‘Oriel Project Space’. This was a relaxed interactive space which offered paints made from natural pigments, native and medicinal plants, books in Welsh and English about the local landscape and magnifying glasses to study species closely. The Project Space opened contemporary art to groups and families through participation and sensory methods. Visitors were encouraged to participate and experiment with the different materials with assistance from professional artists.

The project also hosted additional activities for groups from Canolfan Riviere Day Centre, Barnardos, Conwy Connect, Cymdeithas Edward Llwyd, Merched y Wawr and the Well Women group.

The project recorded 2,234 participants / engagements through the Oriel with a further 73 paintings produced using natural paints and pigments.
