Lloc and District Riding Club

The ‘Jump to it’ project was set to improve the equestrian facilities at Lloc and District Riding Club. The club has been the starting point for many equestrians in the area.

The club received funding from the Gwynt y Môr Community Fund to update the jump equipment. The existing show jumps and working hunter jumps were old and unsafe for both horses and riders. The grant helped the club be sustainable for the future. Raising funds for new equipment would have taken 2 or 3 years without grant funding, and upcoming competitions would have been cancelled due to the unsafe existing equipment.

The project enabled the club to improve the facilities for all its members: the club started its annual competitions with 111 members, which was a significant increase on the year before. By the end of the year, the club had 169 individual members, making a massive 240 combinations of horses and riders/handlers. Participation in classes in the working hunter and show jumping increased after the new the new jumps arrived. In 2022 the club had 242 participants within its jumping competitions. They hope to increase this number to 300 in 2023.

The project involved a lot of assessments of the style of jumps that were needed to give the riders the safest and the best experience possible. This gave riders experience of fences they would find at national competitions and at grassroots competitions and would enable them to gain experience and confidence over various styles of fences.

“The work that has gone into the jumping courses has given the club’s members an excellent start in the sport. The courses are of national competition standard, meaning the competitors can now experience the fence types they will see at elite standard shows but right here on their doorstep on a regular basis. It’s a fantastic investment into the future of our sport”.
