Llandrillo Bowling Club

During the summer of 2023, Llandrillo Bowling Club were awarded just under £1,900.00 to purchase an aerator for the club.

Moss is a persistent challenge on a large area of lawn, especially bowling greens, in the damp climatic conditions we have in Wales, throughout most of the year. The moss is treated using ferrous sulphate which is essential to get it under control. Having acquired the lawn aerator, this assists in keeping the fine turf grass healthier and discourage the growth of moss thereby reducing the need to use chemicals in the future.

The membership of the Bowls Club consists of those who prefer a gentle social activity and those who like to play competitively within a team environment albeit once or twice a week. They have a qualified Bowls Coach (level 1), who offers tuition to any new Club member starting as a beginner or to improve any existing members ability and their understanding of the game. The condition of the playing surface, the facilities that have been developed over the 21years since opening the green in 2002 and the policies adopted for equality, inclusion and safeguarding offers all members positivity going forward.

Since the application the bowling club have attracted 3 new members and 4 new volunteers for the club. They also have open days planned during Easter 2024, keep a look out for the dates!

Brian Williams, the Green Keeper and Club President, said:

"Receiving the grant towards the purchase of lawn aerator has provided vital additional equipment, essential for the long-term maintenance of the green. This equipment is something we have needed for some time and the improvement to the bowling green playing surface will benefit everyone playing bowls at our club”.
